Scarlett Reaghan Montgomery[1] is one of the protagonists of the Pokémon Journeys GX series. She is the only child and daughter of International Police Agent, Dallas Montgomery and Pokémon Professor Ailey Montgomery, and the niece of former Pokémon Coordinator Corrine Blakely.

She is a 13-year-old Pokémon Trainer from Lumiose City who's ultimate goal is to become a Dark-type Master. Her first Pokemon is a Zorua that she received from her father as a birthday present. Her travel partner is her best friend, Bailey Ketchum.

History

Pre-series

Born and raised in Lumiose City, Kalos, Scarlett is the only daughter and child of International Police Agent Dallas Montgomery and Ailey Montgomery, a Pokémon Professional Specializing in Legendary Pokémon. The first three years of Scarlet's childhood was like any other childhood, she spent a lot of time looking at her mother's Pokémon books, even deciding at an early age to become a future Dark Master.

Unfortunately, when Scarlett was three, her mother suddenly went missing when she was in Sinnoh, leaving her in the care of her father. Following her mother's disappearance, Corrine moved closer to her brother-in-law and niece to help out.

Characteristics

Personality & Traits

Right off the bat, Scarlett is seen as a quiet and mysterious person, as she does not talk most of the time. She prefers not making new friends but puts it up for Bailey, who loves making new friends. She tends to be blunt at times, stating the obvious. This tends to happen when she sees a Trainer doing something that they really shouldn't.

However, when she's with her Pokémon, she's a totally different person. Scarlett smiles and is calm, kind, and patient with them. She hates seeing any Pokémon in pain and especially hates to see one being treated poorly. She praises her Pokémon when they do an excellent job and helps them train to get stronger. She is extremely close to her Father's Pokémon and cares and loves them greatly. She will add them to her team when she feels she could get some extra practice in training. She is in particular close with Dallas's Lycanroc who often would watch over her as a child. As a rising Dark Master, Scarlett gets excited when she sees any type of Dark-type Pokémon, and will either catch if, if the Pokémon is wild, or ask its trainer about it.

Though, when it comes to those that hurt Pokémon, like Poachers, she despises them, sometimes cursing them and wanting to rot in Jail. However, when it comes to Pokémon Hunters, she is indifferent about them as her father is working undercover as one.

Her family is very important to her and she will defend with at once. She isn't by any means sensitive when it comes to her family, but can get emotional when her parents are involved. Having not seen her mother since she was three, it's a touchy subject.

Physical appearance

For some strange reason, Scarlett was born with platinum blonde hair, which confused her mother seeing as she has brown hair and Dallas has black hair, and golden-colored eyes, which inherited from her father.

Her usual travel clothing consists of a sleeveless black-and-red zipper hoodie jacket over a dark red long-sleeve shirt, dark blue jeans, brown boots, and a white belt around her waist, which holds her Pokéballs. She carries a dark purple and white backpack and also has a fanny-like pack. She has her ears pierced, with her earrings being shaped like Umbreons and she also has a silver locket around her neck, which has pictures of her and her parents.

It is later revealed that Dallas' original hair color was platinum blonde, which was how Scarlett inherited it.

Powers & Abilities

As a child, during the rare times her father was home, Scarlett would watch him participate in the Battle Chateau, which unintentionally got her into Pokémon Battling early on, keeping the knowledge of battling in her mind. With her mother as a Pokémon Professor, Scarlett read quite a few of Ailey's books, inhaling the information as she read them. Despite having no battled yet, Scarlett is relatively skilled in battle strategies.

  • Extensive knowledge on Pokémon battling: Despite being a new trainer, Scarlett is highly skilled in battles having watched both her father.
  • Strategic planning: She is very creative and skilled in coming up with complex battle strategies ahead of time or even on the spot. Honestly, between her and Bailey, Scarlett is the most creative.
  • First Aid: Scarlett is aware of how to heal a Pokémon and carries a vast collection of healing potions and berries on her person.
  • Extensive knowledge of Dark-type Pokémon: Aiming to become a Dark-type Master, Scarlett has studied everything she can on Dark-types along with their weaknesses and moves.
  • Extensive knowledge of Pokémon: In addition, Scarlett is also well versed in the various Pokémon and their types, allowing her to know how to care for each type.

Pokémon

As a future Dark Master, Scarlett would prefer to catch only Dark-type Pokémon but will catch a Pokémon if there is a good reason. An example is her Growlithe, a Fire-type, who she caught to have some connection with her missing mother.

Any Dark-type she does catch, Scarlett houses them in Dusk Balls.

Scarlett's Rotom Phone
Rotom Phone
Scarlett received this Rotom Phone from her Aunt Corrine Blakely, who previously belonged with to father. Rotom calls Scarlett "Lady Scarlett", which gives some hint to her father's past. Though Scarlett wishes to learn more on her father's past, she knows it's not the right thing to do, Dallas will tell her in his own time.

Rotom is often used by Scarlett and Bailey as a Pokémon Translator, allowing them to understand what their Pokémon are saying.
