Dallas Montgomery is a recurring character in the Pokémon Journeys GX series. He is a special agent of the International Police, the father of Scarlett and the husband of Professor Ailey Montgomery.

Originally on a leave of absence to raise Scarlett, Dallas returned to work when Ailey went missing during a trip to Sinnoh in hopes of finding her. A couple of months before his daughter began her journey, Dallas began working undercover with Pokémon Hunters. In less than six months, Dallas went missing in Unova, prompting Scarlett to search for him.

It is later revealed that Dallas is the identical twin brother of King Hudson of Galar, and the lost Prince Niles.

History

Pre-Series

Not much is known about Dallas's past. He probably began his journey between the ages of 10 and 13.

He started his journey in Alola, where he caught a Litten and Rockruff, and various other Pokemon. After traveling through Unova, he made his way to Kalos where he met Ailey Blakely, who was finishing her degree in Ancient Pokemon. Not long after, the two began to date, and he would late meet Ailey's sister, Corrine Blakely. A couple of years later, he proposed to Ailey and she accepted.

Dallas eventually became the father of a little girl named Scarlett. The family had a happy life together, that is, until Scarlett was three. Around that time Ailey mysteriously went missing while she was in Sinnoh for work, studying the Creation Trio, and Arecus. No one knew where she went, not even the Police Force. Due to this, Dallas returned home to care for his daughter, knowing she would need him. His sister-in-law, Corrine, also moved in with them to help out around the house and to help him raise Scarlett (to which he is ever grateful).

Pokémon Journeys GX: Galar

When Scarlett and Bailey Ketchum desire to go to the Galar region, Dallas is hesitant in letting Scarlett go, but eventually, lets her.

In Welcome to Galar!, Scarlett meets King Hudson, the ruler of Galar, and is confused to why he looks like her father, just with platinum blonde hair. She calls Dallas, who wanting to explain things over Video Phone, heads for Galar, despite having vowed to never return.

Reuniting with Scarlett and Bailey, Dallas reveals his past he's tried so hard to keep a secret. He is one of the Princes of Galar but ran away not wanting that life. He ran away from Galar at 16, taking only his then-Dreepy, and escaped to Alola, which is where he met and captured his Incineroar and Lycanroc. He stayed there for a little under two years, staying low, but also participating in the famed Island Challenge. Once he finished there, he made his way to the Unova region, where he meet some of his Pokemon, eventually heading to Kalos, where he would meet his future wife.

Characteristics

Personality & traits

Orphaned at a young age, Dallas had to protect himself along with his Rockruff and Litten. Despite the harsh upbringing, Dallas worked his way up and soon things went well. Normally, people would think Dallas would have developed a cold and harsh outlook on life. It was the exact opposite of him. Throughout his entire teenage year, Dallas kept quiet about his past, refusing to speak or talk about it. In fact, if anyone brought up a question referring to his past, he shut down immediately.

Now as a father and husband, the family is the utmost importance to Dallas, something he tells Scarlett all the time. Since the disappearance of his wife, Dallas is very protective over Scarlett, but at the same time, isn't that overbearing father and refusing to let her go on her journey. He still wants to do that, knowing it will be good for her, but also wants her to be safe.

Dallas fully believes a child can have a Pokémon before turning of age requirement. He believes having a Pokémon early can help the child get ready for when they begin their journey, and will help them bond and grow. He proved this by getting Scarlett a Zorua two years before she was set to leave on her journey.

Though very friendly and outgoing, Dallas does have things he keeps to himself and does not want to reveal. He is very secretive about his past and doesn't like talking about it, not even with his wife and daughter. He keeps it from them to keep to them safe even though he does wish he could tell them. When his past is revealed, he knows he can't hide it anymore, and tells Ailey and Scarlett, and finds them not caring about it.

Though it's later revealed he was never orphaned, Dallas played it as it was easier than explaining he had run away.

Physical description

Dallas is a handsome middle-aged man, with shoulder-length black hair, with bangs that hang around his golden eyes and a naturally tanned skin tone. He is often mistaken for looking in his 30s rather than his late 40s.

His attire changes regularly, though he is often seen wearing a black leather jacket, a dark shirt, black pants, and matching boots. He wears a belt around his waist holding his Poké Balls.

It is later revealed that Dallas's hair color is dyed, and his actual hair color is a pale, platinum blonde.

Powers & Abilities

As a former Professional Trainer, Dallas has quite a few skills that help him in both. He often uses his skills when working in the International Police.

  • Pokémon battling: Growing up as an orphan, Dallas got into Pokémon battling at a relatively young age, as he had to fight to keep both Rockruff and Litten safe from others who wanted them. Now as an adult, his skills are still nearly unmatched. Scarlett mentions that her father is nearly unbeatable.
  • Strategic planning: Dallas is extremely creative and highly skilled in coming up with complex battle strategies ahead of time or even on the spot. With him working undercover, he's had to create some interesting tactics to make sure he wasn't caught. Scarlett inherited this talent from Dallas.
  • Stealth and Infiltration: He is a highly skilled infiltrator, capable of sneaking into places without being seen, which works in his Undercover work.
  • Pokémon Health and Care: As a trainer, Dallas has enough knowledge where he can treat his Pokémon should they get injured and is too far from a Pokémon Center. He made sure to talk to Scarlett about it before she went on her journey.
